Inbetriebnahme des größten Offshore-Energieumwandlers mit einer Leistung von 6 Milliarden kWh

Recently, China announced the installation of the largest converter station near the coast of Guangdong Province. This massive platform gathers energy generated by offshore wind farms, with the transmission of almost 6 billion of electricity annually.

Overview of the project details

The station is located approximately 100 km from the Yangtze River coast. All the preparations are now at the final stage before the actual start of the commercial operation. Major tasks are now connected with the joint tests and laying of the subsea cable. It is expected that the project can minimize CO₂ emissions by nearly 5 million metric tons per year.

According to the publicly revealed information, the converter substation is constructed from two parts. The first one is a 7-story steel structure with a support base that is anchored to the seabed. The total weight of both structures is approximately 17,000 metric tons.  

This massive construction is anchored to the seabed with 8 foundation piles. They were created to withstand severe conditions with strong winds, waves, and typhoons. Due to the huge weight of the entire construction, engineers created an innovative installation method. The semi-submersible vessel “Xiang Tai Kou” was used for the lifting of the heavy loads.
