Although we have already told you how to choose the right virtual server, we cannot dissect all of the nuances in one article. This is confirmed by the experience of experts at HostZealot, who are faced with a lot of clarifying questions from customers! For example, VPS Rental customers are often interested in the CPU in their "machine" - and we will tell you all the most important things about selecting this node!

What should I look for when choosing a CPU?

Any processor has dozens of different characteristics. But in the case of the discussed type of server (you can read about it in detail at this link) actually two parameters matter:

  • The number of cores. If we do not take into account extreme cases, usually when renting VPS clients require from 2 to 6 cores. It is believed: the more cores the better. But there are a couple of subtleties here. First, not every project requires high multi-threading of data processing (and there is no sense to pay for extra cores). Simple blogs and small corporate sites need a virtual server with 2-3 cores, online store, or, say, a service with dynamic data need at least 4 cores. Secondly, sometimes 2-4 cores are more effective than 3-6. We will cover it in the article further.
  • Clock frequency. This property of a core indicates its performance based on the number of operations per unit time and is measured in Hz. The higher the frequency, the faster the page is generated. Therefore a smaller set of cores with a higher frequency may in practice be faster than a multicore solution… But then again, there is a "but"! Due to peculiarities of the server's processor microarchitecture, its generation, availability of advanced Turbo-modes, etc. sometimes models with a clock frequency of 3GHz are more productive than 4GHz analogs… So it is not worth comparing "pure" figures.

What to do? The advice is simple: consult with experts, who will advise you the best solution for your project. And if you have specific and high demands, you should think about leasing not VPS, but a dedicated server instead. In that case, you can exactly pick up the processor for your tasks (read more about the differences in hosting in this article).

What processor should I choose when renting a VPS?

If you're still inclined to virtual machines, try to approach the "processor" question comprehensively:

  • Find out the details. Ask the companies that offer you to rent VPS-hosting, what processors they use. And then search the Internet for tests of these models - and compare their performance.
  • Look for a balance. The number of cores and frequency in the virtual server must relate to each other. Also, evaluate the RAM: it is believed that one core of the processor should ideally be 1-2 GB.

And to simplify the task, contact HostZealot company. We use only modern and high-speed solutions (even if we're talking about virtual hosting!). Moreover, you can rent VPS) of different performance in 14 locations, with different OS and storage types - but in any case with a favorable pricing plan, flexible customization and competent 24/7 technical support!
